In an effort to make easy to consume content for their viewers, Microsoft has rebranded it’s old streaming service ‘Beam’ into it’s brand new product, ‘Mixer.’ The platform will allow people to stream from their Xbox or PC to the world, allowing viewers to interact with their favourite streamers.
“It brings people together through the core experience and ‘special sauce” that our fans already know and love: the ability to not just watch streams, but to also interact with streamers and play together in near real-time,” said Matt Salsamendi, Co-Founder and Engineering Lead of Mixer. “In other words, Mixer is livestreaming that’s actually LIVE, compared to the 10 – 20 second latency you typically get on other platforms. What’s more, viewers can actively participate in what’s happening on screen instead of just watching from the sidelines.
One of the new features available on Mixer will be what’s called co-streaming, allowing for four different people to all stream on the same channel, giving the viewers a split-screen view of each player’s perspective. Mixer will also have built-in app on the Xbox One, allowing console streamers the ability to stream to their viewers with no extra equipment.
Mixer will also look to jump into the mobile stream market with the unveiling of the Mixer Create app. Now available on mobile through the App Store and Google Play, the Mixer Create app will allow streamers to broadcast from any location in the world, much like how Facebook Live and Periscope allow users of Facebook and Twitter to do the same. Down the road, the app will also allow the streaming of mobile games from one’s cell phone to the world.
